Man is capable of the worst. The Vietnamese of the 20th century know something about this, having survived crimes, cruelties, cowardice, baseness, and hypocrisies.
But man is also capable of the best. Hopefully these miracles of beauty, purity, and nobility produced by the human spirit will help you keep faith in mankind.
Pablo Casals is not only the greatest cellist ever, but he also personifies the nobility of the human spirit's resistance against oppression. Only very few Vietnamese, perhaps only one, were able to take cello lessons with this great musician-artist in the 1920s.
